Young driver killed in head-on crash with semi-trailer at Anna Bay

newy.com.au – A 21-year-old man has died after his Toyota Yaris collided head-on with a semi-trailer on Nelson Bay Road at Anna Bay in the Port Stephens area on Friday afternoon.

NSW Police said emergency services were called about 4.40pm on Friday 6 February 2026 to reports of a two vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of Nelson Bay Road, near Forst Road. Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrived to find the Toyota Yaris and a semi-trailer had collided head-on.

The 21-year-old driver of the Toyota was treated at the scene by first responders and NSW Ambulance paramedics, but could not be revived and died at the scene.

The truck driver, aged 28, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Tomaree Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police said the Crash Investigation Unit had started inquiries into the cause of the crash, with investigators expected to examine the scene, vehicle damage and any available camera footage.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
