Woman critical after Cessnock multi-vehicle crash near school

newy.com.au – A woman in her 50s is in a critical condition after a multi-vehicle crash in Cessnock just after 9am.

Emergency services were called to the scene with concerns a driver may have suffered a medical episode, several agencies responded and traffic affected the main road into town.

The crash happened at the corner of Old Maitland Road and Yilgarn Avenue, multiple vehicles were involved.

Responding crews included NSW Police, Transport for NSW, NSW Ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Paramedics treated the critically injured woman at the scene before she was flown to John Hunter Hospital by helicopter.

NSW Ambulance also assessed two other patients at the scene.

B68 Maitland Road was closed for a period but has since reopened, investigators are still working in the area near Cessnock East Public School.
