Fire crews respond to blaze at Wickham gym as Police establish a crime scene

newy.com.au – Emergency crews were called to a fire at the Air Locker Newcastle gym on Albert Street in Wickham just after midnight, police established a crime scene at the property.

Thick smoke blanketed the suburb as firefighters arrived. Albert Street was closed while crews battled for about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Fire and Rescue NSW’s Carrington crew was first to respond after being dispatched at 12:03am, followed by crews from Newcastle, Merewether and Lambton.

NSW Ambulance also attended to provide medical support if required.

NSW Police told newy.com.au that officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene that will be examined by forensic specialists.
