Building destroyed in fire at Avondale School in Cooranbong

newy.com.au – Emergency crews were called to a structure fire at Avondale School in Cooranbong about 7.30pm on Wednesday, a building was destroyed and the scene handed to police for investigation.

Avondale School said the fire occurred “in an old building on the edge of the school property” and was contained without affecting students, staff or other buildings, the school will remain open.

Firefighters arrived to find the building fully engulfed, flames were also impacting a neighbouring structure as crews worked to contain the blaze.

A total of 10 fire appliances attended and crews were able to bring the fire under control and protect a nearby building, but the structure was completely destroyed.

The incident involved NSW Rural Fire Service brigades from Cooranbong, Dora Creek, Wyee, Peninsula and Cameron Park, as well as Fire and Rescue NSW at Morisset, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and Ausgrid.

“Whilst the cause of the fire is under investigation, anyone with information is urged to contact NSW Police Force or crimestoppers,” the brigade said.

Avondale School said “the fire was quickly contained and extinguished” and thanked Fire and Emergency Services for their prompt response as investigations continue into how the blaze started.
