newy.com.au – A 77-year-old woman has died after a two-vehicle crash on Nelson Bay Road at Salamander Bay on Saturday 17 January 2026.
Police said emergency services were called to the road about 7.25pm after reports a Toyota Rav4 and a Subaru Forester had collided in the Hunter Region.
The 77-year-old Rav4 driver died at the scene.
Three passengers in the Rav4 — two men aged 78 and 79, and a 76-year-old woman — were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
The driver of the Subaru Forester, a 66-year-old man, and a 60-year-old female passenger were also treated at the scene before being taken to the same hospital, where they were listed as stable.
Officers from Port Hunter Stephens Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined by specialist investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
