Man refused bail after alleged stolen motorbike stop in Cessnock

newy.com.au – A 49-year-old man has been charged and refused bail after police stopped a motorbike in Cessnock in the Hunter Valley on Thursday 15 January 2026.

Officers from the NSW Police State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad North were patrolling Wollombi Road about 11.40am when they sighted a motorbike with an allegedly altered numberplate.

Police stopped the motorbike a short time later at the intersection of Barrett Avenue and Mount View Road, according to a police statement.

Following inquiries, officers alleged the rider’s licence was disqualified and the motorcycle had been reported stolen from a home in Morpeth in November 2025.

During a search of the rider, police alleged they located and seized 4g of methamphetamine.

The man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station, where he was charged with use class A vehicle displaying misleading etc number-plate, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Friday 16 January 2026.
