[Friday Morning Update: The main remains at the John Hunter in a critical condition]
newy.com.au – A man in his 70s was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition after a bicycle crash at the corner of Hunter Street and Darby Street in Newcastle around midday.
The crash disrupted traffic through the CBD, with police temporarily closing Hunter Street and diverting westbound motorists into Darby Street while paramedics attended.
Witness Scott Peters said he arrived to find bystanders already attempting to resuscitate the injured rider before an ambulance reached the scene.
“I just got home from passing that gentleman on my back from the beach. There was a group performing CPR. Kudos to those who were already helping him,” Peters wrote. “I stopped and asked if they required assistance being senior first-aid. They said they had it under control and an ambulance was on the way.”
