Man charged with murder after woman found dead in Fern Bay

newy.com.au – A 61-year-old man has been charged with murder after an elderly woman was found dead inside a home in Fern Bay just North of Stockton on Thursday.

Police said officers from Port Stephens Hunter Police District were called to a house on Taylor Road about 12.30pm on Thursday 18 December 2025, where they found an 88-year-old woman deceased inside the property. A crime scene was established as detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Earlier that day, a 61-year-old man attended Newcastle Police Station in relation to an incident at the Fern Bay address. Following further inquiries, detectives arrested the man, who police say was known to the woman.

The man was charged with murder (domestic violence related) by detectives.  Investigators remained at the Taylor Road home on Thursday as forensic examinations were carried out.

The accused was refused bail and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Friday 19 December 2025.
