Man charged after fatal alleged assault at Cooks Hill unit

newy.com.au – A 24-year-old man has been charged after NSW Police alleged he entered a unit on Wednesday 10 December 2025 at Darby Street Cooks Hill and assaulted a 53-year-old resident who could not be revived on .

Police said emergency services were called to the unit about 3.20am following reports of an assault, and detectives began an investigation under Strike Force Aztec with assistance from the NSW Police State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Officers were told the 53-year-old man had allegedly been assaulted by another man who had entered the unit. The resident was treated at the scene but could not be revived.

A crime scene was established and Newcastle City detectives commenced inquiries under Strike Force Aztec, with homicide detectives assisting.

After a post-mortem examination, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Seven Hills about 8.20am on Wednesday 17 December. A 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

Police said the man was charged with aggravated enter dwelling with intent, and use etc offensive weapon in company with intent indictable offence. He was refused bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Wednesday 17 December, where bail was formally refused and the matter was listed for Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 11 February.

Inquiries are continuing under Strike Force Aztec.
