Maitland Aquatic Centre to reopen on 22 December with free family open day

newy.com.au – Maitland Aquatic Centre on Les Darcy Drive will reopen on Monday 22 December 2025 after repairs to its Olympic-sized outdoor pool, with free entry for a family open day from 10am to 3pm.

Maitland City Council said the outdoor pool had been closed for essential remediation works, with the reopening timed for the start of the summer holiday period and the lead-in to Christmas.

The free open day will include a live DJ, lawn games, laser tag and a free sausage sizzle for visitors.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold said the event was “the perfect way to welcome people back to the outdoor pool, after an extended closure that was required for essential repair works”.

“We’ve been working hard to improve Maitland’s Olympic outdoor pool, and we’d like to thank the community for their patience while this has taken place,” Penfold said.

“Now work is complete, we can reopen the pool for summer and give the people of Maitland an early Christmas present with free entry to the pool for opening day,” he said.

Council said the work included repairs to expansion joints, the concrete structure and fibreglass lining, as well as tiling and repainting to extend the facility’s life, along with repairs to the splash pad.
