Wallsend arrest leads to 23 charges over alleged property offences across greater Newcastle and Mugee

newy.com.au – A 34-year-old man was due to face court in Newcastle on Friday after being charged with 23 offences following an investigation into alleged property offences across multiple NSW regions.

Police from Newcastle City Police District said they began investigating in early December 2025 after a man allegedly stole several items from a clothing retailer in Kotara, with inquiries later linking him to other alleged incidents in Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and Mudgee.

About 10am on Thursday 11 December 2025, police attended a licensed premises in Wallsend and arrested the man, police said.

During a search, officers allegedly located and seized a bottle of 1,4-Butanediol and a knife, before taking him to Waratah Police Station.

Police said he was charged with seven counts of larceny, five counts of driving during a disqualification period, and three counts of entering inclosed land without lawful excuse.

He was also charged with two counts of using a class A vehicle displaying a misleading number plate, as well as single counts of break and enter with intent to steal and dishonestly obtaining property by deception, police said.

Additional charges included taking and driving a conveyance without the owner’s consent, hindering or resisting police in the execution of duty, possessing a prohibited drug and custody of a knife in a public place.

The man was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 2 on Friday 12 December 2025.
