A 46-year-old man will face court tomorrow charged with multiple offences, including reckless wounding, following an alleged stabbing in Newcastle earlier today.
Emergency services responded to reports of an assault at a unit on Watkins Street, Merewether, about 7:20 am. Police were told that two men had become involved in an altercation at the property, during which one man allegedly sustained a knife wound.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 46-year-old man at the scene for a head injury before transporting him to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. Officers attached to the Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
Following extensive inquiries, police located and arrested a 46-year-old man on Ocean Street in Merewether at approximately 2:30 pm. He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and common assault. The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 2 tomorrow, Thursday, 11 December 2025.
