newy.com.au – Motorists are being advised of changed overnight traffic conditions on Maud Street between Lorna and Prince streets at Waratah West on Friday 21 November while road resurfacing work is carried out.
The work is described as important maintenance on a busy local link road, with authorities scheduling it overnight in an effort to reduce disruption for through traffic and residents in surrounding streets.
The City of Newcastle will carry out the work on behalf of Transport for NSW, including resurfacing the road along this section of Maud Street. The night shift is planned to run from 8pm to 5am, with the job expected to be completed in a single night, weather permitting.
Traffic will continue to be able to travel along Maud Street during the works, but changed conditions will apply. The advice noted that “single lane closures, traffic control with stop/slow traffic arrangements and a 40km/h speed reduction will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists”.
Residents in nearby streets will face some detours while crews are on site. “Traffic will still be able to travel along Maud Street. A detour will be in place for residents entering and exiting King, Vera and Prince streets,” the statement said.
Drivers using the area are being urged to exercise caution around the work zone, with reduced speeds and traffic controllers in place to manage vehicles through the lane closures. Motorists “are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control”.
Transport information will be available through the state’s real-time traffic channels while the maintenance is under way. For more details, people can visit the Live Traffic NSW website, use the Live Traffic NSW app or call 132 701.
Those wanting updates pushed to their phones have been encouraged to “search for ‘Waratah West’ in your Live Traffic app, select the incident and click ‘Follow’” to receive notifications as conditions change and once the work is completed.
