Teen boys charged after alleged pursuit in Hamilton

newy.com.au – Two teenage boys have been charged after an alleged police pursuit through Hamilton in Newcastle’s inner suburbs on Thursday night.

NSW Police said the incident involved a white Isuzu MUX which officers allege had been stolen from a home in Cameron Park and later failed to stop for patrolling police, with the teenagers now due to face a children’s court.

About 10pm on Thursday 13 November 2025, officers from Newcastle City Police District were patrolling along Hassell Street, Hamilton, when they attempted to stop the SUV, police said.

Officers conducted checks on the vehicle, which was reported stolen from a Cameron Park home on Wednesday 12 November 2025, according to police.

When the Isuzu allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

Police said the pursuit continued through Hamilton before the SUV came to a stop in a parking lot off Hassell Street.

According to police, four occupants ran from the vehicle on foot after it stopped.

A short time later, officers arrested two boys, aged 14 and 15, nearby. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

The teenagers were taken to Newcastle Police Station.

Police said the 15-year-old boy was charged with engage police pursuit and breach of bail.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner and breach of bail, police said.

Both boys were refused bail to appear in a children’s court on Friday 14 November 2025.

Police said inquiries into the incident are continuing.
