newy.com.au – A man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl at Hamilton Train Station earlier this month.

Police said the girl was approached by an unknown man about 1.30am on Friday 15 August while she was waiting at the station. She was allegedly followed to Fern Street, Islington, where the assault occurred.

The girl was taken to hospital for assessment, and detectives from the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Keyneton to investigate.

On Monday 25 August about 7am, strike force detectives, assisted by the Raptor Squad, executed a search warrant at a home on Campden Street, Thornton. Police said they seized clothing, a backpack and an electronic device during the search.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the property and taken to Maitland Police Station. He was charged with having sexual intercourse with a child between 14 and 16 years old and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order direction.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Bail Division Local Court 2 on Tuesday 26 August.

Police are urging anyone who has been a victim of crime to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated confidentially, and authorities have reminded the public not to report information through NSW Police social media pages.
