newy.com.au – A 35-year-old man has been arrested following an alleged threat incident at a supermarket in Jesmond late on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
Police from Newcastle City Police District were called to the scene around 10pm after reports that the man had allegedly made threats towards staff members. When officers arrived, they attempted to engage with the individual, prompting the establishment of a perimeter.
Specialist units, including the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, Negotiation Unit and Tactical Operations Unit, were deployed to assist. The situation concluded at approximately 4.25am on Wednesday, 6 August, when the man was taken into custody and transported to Waratah Police Station.
A search of the surrounding area and the man’s belongings did not uncover any items of concern. He has been charged with giving false information suggesting a person or property was in danger, and with stalking or intimidating with the intent to cause fear of physical harm.
The man was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Bail Division Court 1 today.
