Two Men Charged After Shot Fired During Mayfield Home Invasion

newy.com.au – Two men have been charged in connection with a violent home invasion in Mayfield during which a shotgun was fired into a residence in the early hours of 30 May 2025.

Police were called to a home on Bull Street about 3.50am after reports of a gunshot. Officers from Newcastle City Police District attended the scene and established a crime scene, where they found damage to the front door consistent with a shotgun discharge.

A forensic examination uncovered an unspent bullet, a knife and a set of knuckledusters both at the property and nearby.

As part of ongoing investigations under Strike Force Barkov, detectives arrested two men. A 36-year-old man was taken to Newcastle Police Station on 16 June 2025 and charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 13 August 2025.

A second man, aged 32, was arrested on 15 July 2025 at Waratah Police Station. He was charged with firing a firearm at a dwelling with disregard for safety and special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence. He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 17 September 2025.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
