Traffic Changes and Delays Ahead as M1 Extension Works Ramp Up Between Black Hill and Tomago

newy.com.au – Motorists travelling through the Hunter region are being warned of upcoming traffic changes and delays from Monday 28 July to Friday 1 August as construction continues on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension from Black Hill to Raymond Terrace.

From the night of Thursday 31 July, weather permitting, a significant traffic change will occur at Tomago. Northbound lanes on the Pacific Highway at Tomago Road will be diverted onto a new bridge and alignment heading towards Heatherbrae and Raymond Terrace. As part of this change, access between the highway and Old Punt Road in the northbound direction will be closed. Drivers are advised to use the signalised intersection at Tomago Road instead.

Construction will take place from 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 8am to 5pm on Saturdays, with additional night works scheduled from 7pm to 5am Monday to Friday. These activities will involve lane closures, intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40 kilometres per hour at multiple locations.

Night works from 7pm to 5am will affect sections of the M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill, John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield, the New England Highway at Tarro, and the Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae. Daytime disruptions from 7am to 5pm will occur on Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill, Old Punt Road near Tomago, and the eastbound lanes of the New England Highway at Tarro.

Transport for NSW has asked motorists to allow extra time for travel and follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers.

Operators of oversize or over mass vehicles wider than 3.2 metres in ground contact or exceeding 4.5 metres in total width must contact the project team on 0423 323 946 at least one day prior to travel. They are reminded that vehicles operating under a permit must adhere strictly to their approved routes or obtain a revised permit from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
