newy.com.au – A 44-year-old man is due to appear in court today after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through Newcastle’s western suburbs in the early hours of 22 July 2025.

Around 1.45am, officers on patrol along Minmi Road in Edgeworth attempted to stop a vehicle. Police allege the driver failed to comply, prompting a pursuit through the Hunter Expressway and John Renshaw Drive, before returning to the Minmi and Wallsend areas.

The driver is accused of abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into nearby bushland, where he was located and arrested shortly after with assistance from the Dog Unit.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with multiple offences, including police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, driving while disqualified, and assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty without causing actual bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and is scheduled to face Bail Division Court 2 today.
