newy.com.au – A second man has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old at Bar Beach carpark in Newcastle earlier this year.
Emergency services were called to Memorial Drive around 11.40pm on 23 April 2025, where they found the young man with a gunshot wound. NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to treat him, but he died at the scene. Police established a crime scene and launched an investigation led by Newcastle City Police District, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Bolwarra.
Police allege that a group was involved in an altercation at the carpark when a white SUV arrived. A man exited the vehicle with a firearm, discharged it, then fled in the same SUV.
A 22-year-old man was arrested two days later, on 25 April 2025, and charged with murder. He remains in custody before the courts.
Further inquiries led police to execute a search warrant at a unit on Honeysuckle Drive, Newcastle, on 7 May 2025. Officers seized a firearm and ammunition, and arrested a 25-year-old man nearby. He was initially charged with multiple firearm and ammunition offences, including possessing a stolen firearm and breaching a prohibition order and bail conditions.
Today, 10 July 2025, the same man was charged with murder and possession of an unauthorised prohibited firearm following his arrest at a correctional facility in Kempsey. He was refused bail and is set to appear in Bail Division Court 1.
Investigations are ongoing.
