newy.com.au – Three males, including a 16-year-old, have been charged following the discovery of weapons and drugs during a vehicle stop in Newcastle early this morning, as part of the ongoing Operation Foil.
Police from Newcastle City Police District stopped a car at the intersection of King Street and Steel Street around 3.15am on 4 July 2025. Officers allege they found a baton, multiple knives and methylamphetamine inside the vehicle.
All three occupants were arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station. The driver, aged 22, was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and carrying a knife in a public place. He was granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Local Court on 10 July 2025.
A second man, also 22, was charged with two counts of carrying a knife in a public place and possession of a prohibited drug. He was refused bail and is expected to face Parramatta Local Court later today.
The 16-year-old passenger was charged with possessing a knife and an offensive implement in a public place. He was also refused bail and is due to appear in a children’s court today.
Operation Foil is a high visibility statewide initiative focused on tackling violent crime, knife possession and illegal weapons in public spaces.
