Direct Flights from Newcastle to Cairns Return

newy.com.au – Direct flights between Newcastle and Cairns have resumed from 2 July 2025, with Jetstar reintroducing its seasonal service to offer travellers a convenient link between the Hunter and Far North Queensland during the peak dry season.

Flights from Cairns to Newcastle will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until 3 October, departing at 12:00 and arriving at 14:45. Return services from Newcastle to Cairns will depart at 15:20 on the same days, arriving in Cairns at 18:15. From 6 October to 24 October, the schedule shifts slightly, with flights operating on Wednesdays and Fridays. The revised timings will see Cairns departures at 12:00, landing in Newcastle at 15:45, and Newcastle departures at 16:20, arriving in Cairns at 18:15.

Newcastle Airport CEO Linc Horton said the route’s return signals strong demand for direct travel and tourism between the regions. “Jetstar’s seasonal service to Cairns is a valuable connection for our region, offering a direct link between the Hunter and one of Australia’s most sought-after holiday destinations,” he said.

“Following a standout 2024 season, it’s clear that this route resonates strongly with travellers,” Mr Horton added. “As we prepare to open our new terminal, the continued growth in services like this highlights the increasing demand for convenient, direct air travel and reinforces Newcastle Airport’s role as a critical enabler of regional tourism and economic activity.”
