newy.com.au – City of Newcastle is seeking a new operator to take over the management of Beresfield Golf Course, with the current lease due to end on 31 August 2025. An Expressions of Interest (EOI) process has been launched to find a suitable proponent to oversee the 24-hectare recreational site, which includes a 10-hole golf course, 18-hole footgolf and disc golf courses, and a mini-golf facility.
Located between Newcastle and Maitland, just off the M1 Pacific Motorway, the Council-owned venue also features a Pro Shop, clubhouse, change rooms, greenkeepers’ workshop, barbecue and picnic areas, and a large car park. The EOI campaign will close at 4pm on Thursday, 10 July 2025, with the lease scheduled to commence on 1 September.
City of Newcastle’s Executive Director Corporate Services, David Clarke, said the aim is to secure an operator capable of maintaining the site’s role as a well-used and inclusive community facility. “We want to identify a new operator with the vision and capability to leverage strong local community support for the facility,” Mr Clarke said.
He highlighted the diverse sporting options available at the golf course and its appeal to families and pet owners. “Not only does the facility provide a range of different sporting options, it’s also one of the few golf courses that is dog friendly,” he said. Mr Clarke also noted the city’s recent investment in the site, including a grant earlier in 2024 to establish the Hunter Region’s first 18-hole disc golf course.
An external agent has been appointed to manage the leasing process, with submissions to be assessed on criteria such as financial viability, experience in managing similar facilities, staffing proposals, and a detailed five-year business plan. The preferred candidate will be offered an initial five-year lease, a term that received community backing during a recent public exhibition.
