newy.com.au – McCaffrey Drive in New Lambton Heights will be closed in both directions from 7pm on Friday 27 June to 5am on Monday 30 June as part of ongoing work on the Newcastle Inner City Bypass between Rankin Park and Jesmond.
The closure will affect the southern intersection where McCaffrey Drive meets Lookout Road.
If weather impacts the schedule again, a contingency closure is planned for the following weekend, from 4 to 7 July.
During the weekend closure, Lookout Road will remain open but reduced to one lane in each direction. Detours of up to five kilometres will be in place via Lake Road, Main Road, Macquarie Road and Hillsborough Road, potentially adding up to 15 minutes to travel times.
The planned work includes earthworks, stormwater drainage installation, new pavement and asphalting, relocation of utilities, construction of shared user paths and the installation of new signage. Once complete, traffic will be diverted to a new signalised intersection and bridge at Lookout Road and McCaffrey Drive from Monday morning.
Footpath access will remain available on the eastern side of Lookout Road, while pedestrian access along McCaffrey Drive will be closed. Two bus stops on Lookout Road will be temporarily relocated north, and stops west of Marshall Street will be closed for the weekend.
Heavy vehicles wider than three metres must notify the project team at least 24 hours in advance by calling 1800 818 433. All freight operators are reminded to stay on approved routes as per National Heavy Vehicle Regulator permits. The UHF channel for this site is 52.
Transport for NSW advises motorists to drive to conditions, follow all traffic signage and allow extra time for travel. Live updates are available via the Live Traffic NSW app or website.
