newy.com.au – Drivers using the Newcastle Inner City Bypass should brace for changes to overnight traffic conditions at Hillsborough this week, with resurfacing works set to temporarily close the southbound off ramp. Starting Thursday night, 26 June, road crews will begin laying new asphalt to improve the ramp surface, with works scheduled to run from 8pm to 4am the following morning, weather permitting.
During the closure, motorists looking to exit at Hillsborough Road will need to detour via the Warners Bay Road interchange. Transport for NSW has confirmed that traffic control measures will be in place throughout the night, including a 40km/h speed limit, single lane closures and alternating traffic flow to ensure the safety of road workers and the public.
Heavy vehicles operating under OSOM notices will need to continue on the bypass and divert via the Pacific Highway and Charlestown Road. Restricted Access Vehicles travelling under a notice are reminded to refer to their enforceable network map, while permit holders must stay on their approved route or apply for an updated permit through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
Transport for NSW has urged motorists to drive carefully, follow signage and traffic controllers, and thanked drivers for their patience. For live updates, travellers can visit livetraffic.com or use the Live Traffic NSW app and search for ‘Hillsborough’ to stay informed.
