newy.com.au – Maitland is set to shine bright this weekend as Luminous returns to The Levee for a two-night celebration of art, light and winter wonder. Taking place on 20 and 21 June, the free community event promises to turn the heart of the city into a glowing wonderland, marking the winter solstice with a vibrant lineup of illuminated artworks, live entertainment and local flavour.

Presented by Maitland City Council with backing from The Levee Central Maitland, Luminous will light up the riverside precinct with immersive experiences for all ages. Highlights include fire sculptures, glowing tigers from the ‘Neon Prowl’ installation, and a mesmerising projection piece called ‘Kindled’, designed to capture the hypnotic flicker of flames. Roving performers and fire dancers will bring the space to life, while a light-and-sound interactive artwork pulses in time with a live DJ set.

Adding to the atmosphere, visitors can sip boutique wine at ‘Boydells on Bourke’ and sample hearty bites from the ‘After Dark Bites’ food trucks. The festivities kick off at 5pm on Friday and resume from 3pm on Saturday, culminating in a fireworks finale over The Levee Riverbank at 8pm on 21 June.

Mayor Philip Penfold described Luminous as a celebration of community spirit and creativity, showcasing the city’s vibrant cultural scene during the cooler months. Full event details are available at maitland.nsw.gov.au/luminous.
