Man charged, bail refused for alleged armed robbery at Jewells Tavern

newy.com.au – A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged armed robbery that occurred at a licensed venue in Jewells, Lake Macquarie, late last month.

Around 3pm on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, police responded to reports of an armed hold-up at a premises on Ntaba Road. According to officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District, a man allegedly entered the venue brandishing a broken glass bottle, threatened staff, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

A crime scene was promptly established, and detectives launched an investigation, including a public appeal for information and the release of security images.

Following inquiries, detectives executed a warrant at a home on Doongara Close, Jewells, about 10am on Thursday, 10 April 2025. The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Belmont Police Station, where he was charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon.

He was refused bail and appeared before Belmont Local Court later that day. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, 11 April 2025, at Newcastle Local Court.
