newy.com.au – Fourteen freshly inducted paramedic interns are set to hit the ground running in the Hunter region, beginning the practical stage of their year-long training across Ambulance Zone One.

The group is part of a broader statewide intake of 157 new interns and 17 trainee emergency medical call takers officially welcomed into NSW Ambulance on Friday, 4 April 2025. This ceremony marked the service’s largest induction of the year so far.

Starting their roles from Saturday, the new paramedic interns will soon be seen working alongside experienced crews in both metropolitan and regional locations, with the call takers headed for control centres in Sydney and Newcastle.

Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp highlighted the positive impact these interns will have locally. “It’s wonderful to welcome these future paramedics to our region. Their arrival is a big win for the Hunter and for the broader healthcare network across NSW,” he said.

Health Minister Ryan Park also acknowledged the recruits’ commitment. “These are the people who step up when we need help most. Their dedication and compassion will bring real value to our communities,” he said.
