newy.com.au – Drivers passing through Hexham are being advised to expect overnight changes to traffic conditions on Maitland Road this week as part of the ongoing Hexham Straight Widening project.

Works are scheduled to take place overnight from 7pm to 5am on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 and Thursday, 27 March 2025. During these times, contraflow arrangements will be in place for both directions of traffic between Old Maitland Road (West) and the intersection near the Hexham Steel Bridge exit.

The changes will also impact Over Size Over Mass (OSOM) freight vehicles, particularly those needing to exit the Pacific Highway southbound onto Maitland Road or use the contraflow across the Pacific Highway on-ramp. Freight operators should be aware that loads 6 metres wide or more will not be able to pass through the site during these times and should plan to delay travel accordingly.

Daytime speed limits will remain at 60km/h through the project zone, while night work will see speeds reduced further to 40km/h. OSOM operators with ground contacts wider than 3.2 metres or an overall width over 4.5 metres are urged to contact the project team at least five days before travelling. The contact number provided is 1800 515 141, and all communications for OSOM movements should be made via UHF channel 45.

Transport for NSW has reminded all permit-holding vehicles that they must stick to approved routes unless new permits are issued by the NHVR. Drivers should allow for delays of up to 15 minutes and consider alternate routes where possible.
