newy.com.au – Charlestown Eastlakes Presbyterian Church has received a $10,000 boost from the NSW Government under the Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program. The funding will go towards enhancing security measures and improving accessibility for church members.

The initiative is part of a $15 million, four-year commitment made by the NSW Government in 2023 to support faith communities across the state. Grants under this program range from $5,000 to $250,000 and aim to strengthen security at places of worship. The funding can be used for upgrading surveillance systems, providing training for religious leaders and staff, and enhancing the resilience of faith-based groups.

Minister for Multiculturalism, Steve Kamper, highlighted the importance of ensuring safety for religious communities. “I’m proud that the NSW Government is delivering on its commitment to improve safety at places where faith communities get together. This funding will help ensure these spaces remain places of guidance and peace for attendees,” he said.

Member for Charlestown, Jodie Harrison, spoke about the church’s role in the local community. “Charlestown Eastlakes Presbyterian Church has been a significant part of our community for a long time. This program supports faith groups in staying safe while fostering a sense of resilience and preparedness. The NSW Government is committed to backing our faith organisations with upgrades and other projects that enhance security,” she said.

The Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program is designed to help religious groups implement measures that improve safety and preparedness against potential risks. More information on the grant program can be found here.
