newy.com.au – A 17-year-old learner driver has died following a two-vehicle crash in the Hunter region on Tuesday night, 18 March 2025.

Emergency services were called to John Renshaw Drive at Black Hill around 9pm after reports of a serious collision involving a Holden Commodore and a Ford utility.

The young driver of the Holden tragically died at the scene. A 17-year-old passenger in the rear seat was critically injured and airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital, while a 56-year-old man in the front passenger seat was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the Ford utility, a 62-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police from the Hunter Valley Police District have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

John Renshaw Drive remains closed in both directions between the Hunter Expressway and the M1 Pacific Motorway, with motorists advised to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time.
