Stolen SUV Pursuit Ends in Newcastle Arrests This Morning

newy.com.au – Three people have been charged following a dramatic police pursuit in Newcastle early this morning, which ended in a crash and multiple arrests.

At around 2:50am on Friday, 14 March 2025, officers from Newcastle City Police District spotted an allegedly stolen SUV travelling along Glebe Road in Hamilton South. When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to stop, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit.

The chase led through several Newcastle suburbs before the SUV collided with another vehicle on the Pacific Highway at Hexham. The crash brought the pursuit to an abrupt end, with the SUV coming to a stop at the roadside.

The alleged driver, a 33-year-old man, fled the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by police after a short chase. Two passengers, a 53-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, were also taken into custody.

The 27-year-old woman was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for being carried in a conveyance without the owner’s consent. She is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday, 1 May 2025.

The 53-year-old man faces the same charge and was refused bail ahead of his court appearance later today.

Meanwhile, the alleged driver has been charged with a string of offences, including an outstanding warrant, police pursuit, not stop, drive recklessly, driving while disqualified, possession of a knife in a public place, taking and driving a conveyance without consent, using a vehicle with misleading number plates, dishonestly obtaining property by deception, larceny, and entering a dwelling with intent to steal.

Both men were refused bail and are set to appear before Newcastle Local Court today, Friday, 14 March 2025.
