A 51-year-old man has been charged following a police raid in Nelson Bay, accused of running an elaborate holiday accommodation scam involving dozens of victims and more than 30 offences.
Police executed a search warrant at a property on the mid north coast on Thursday, 13 March 2025, arresting the man at the scene.
He was taken to Nelson Bay Police Station and charged with 31 counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, as well as one count of contravening an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO).
The charges relate to an alleged scam where the accused advertised fake holiday rental properties, deceiving numerous people into paying for accommodation that did not exist. Police investigations into the scam had been ongoing since mid-February.
The 51-year-old was granted conditional bail and will face Manly Local Court on Wednesday, 30 March 2025.
