Seventh Person Charged in Newcastle Stabbing Investigation

newy.com.au – A seventh individual has been charged in connection with the alleged fatal stabbing of a man in Newcastle late last year, as investigations under Strike Force Mannum continue.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November 2024, when emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing on Beaumont Street, Hamilton. Upon arrival, they found a 22-year-old man suffering multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Newcastle City Police District officers established a crime scene and launched an extensive investigation with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

As part of the probe, authorities have already charged six people. Three men, aged 27, 35, and 43 and a 33-year-old woman have been charged with murder. Also, a 28-year-old woman faces charges of accessory after the fact to murder and concealing a serious indictable offence, while a 39-year-old woman has been charged with murder, principal in the second degree. All six remain before the courts.

The latest development saw a 33-year-old man appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, 10 March 2025, where Newcastle detectives successfully applied for his extradition. Later that day, he was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where outstanding warrants were executed.

He has now been charged with murder, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others. He was refused bail at Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, and is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday, 6 May 2025.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
