Man to Face Court Over Alleged Crime Spree Following Newcastle Motorbike Pursuit

A 21-year-old man is set to appear before Newcastle Local Court today, following his arrest over alleged property and traffic offences that culminated in a dramatic motorbike pursuit through Newcastle yesterday afternoon.

Around 4pm on Tuesday, 11 March 2025, police were patrolling Parry Street in Newcastle West when they attempted to stop a motorcycle that had been reported stolen. However, the rider failed to comply, sparking a police pursuit that wound through Hamilton and Adamstown before the bike veered onto the Fernleigh Track, a popular cycling and walking route.

Due to the nature of the location, officers called off the chase for safety reasons but quickly launched a search of the surrounding area. Shortly after, police located the motorbike’s pillion passenger near the Fernleigh Track at Adamstown.

The man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where investigators linked him to multiple break-and-enter offences on Bruce Street and Kemp Street in The Junction, allegedly committed on Monday, 6 January, and Tuesday, 7 January 2025.

As a result, the Lake Macquarie man has been charged with 14 offences, including five counts of entering a building or land with intent to commit an indictable offence, three counts of breaking and entering a dwelling with intent, and three counts of breaking and entering to steal. Additional charges include dealing with identity information to commit an offence, being carried in a stolen vehicle, and larceny.

He was refused bail and is due to face court today, Wednesday, 12 March 2025. Meanwhile, police continue their inquiries to locate the driver of the stolen motorcycle.
