newy.com.au – Newcastle’s cycling community is gearing up for a night of fun and connection as the Newy Night Rides return on Thursday, 20 March 2025. Organised by the Newcastle Cycleways Movement (NCM), the event coincides with the International Day of Happiness, encouraging riders of all ages to come together for a festive evening ride.

The free community event kicks off at 7:15 PM from the Tree of Knowledge in Wickham, with the ride commencing at 7:30 PM. Participants are encouraged to decorate their bikes with lights and decorations, creating a vibrant spectacle as they pedal through Newcastle’s cycleways, shared paths, and quiet streets.

Newy Night Rides has become a well-loved tradition, with past events such as the Christmas Lights Night Ride drawing large crowds who decked out their bikes and even sang carols while cruising through the city. With over 160 responses on the event’s Facebook page, organisers expect between 50 to 100 cyclists to take part in this latest edition.

Safety remains a priority, with all riders required to wear helmets and ensure their bikes are in good condition. It is recommended that participants equip their bicycles with front and rear lights for visibility, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

This ride is open to everyone, from experienced cyclists to casual riders looking for a fun and social way to experience Newcastle at night. No registration is required—just turn up, join in, and enjoy the ride.
