newy.com.au – Skaters in Thornton and surrounding areas now have a fresh spot to hone their tricks, with Maitland City Council unveiling the brand-new Thornton Skate Park on Taylor Avenue.
The $600,000 facility, designed in collaboration with the local community, boasts an array of features catering to skaters of all levels. The new setup includes a halfpipe with a spine and box jump, a kinked floating ledge, a vert wall, flat banks, rails, and more—offering a dynamic space for skateboarders, scooter riders, and BMX enthusiasts.
Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold highlighted the park’s role in providing a versatile recreational space for residents of Thornton, Chisholm, and surrounding areas.
“We’ve built a much-improved facility for local skaters to replace the former Thornton Skate Park, which had reached the end of its life,” Mayor Penfold said. “We thank everyone who provided feedback and helped shape the final design for this project. I’m sure the new facility will be much-loved by our community for many years to come.”
In addition to the skate park, Maitland City Council has spruced up the adjacent playspace and basketball court, ensuring the entire area is an inviting hub for outdoor activity.
