Newcastle Movie: Cooked to premiere at Westfield Kotara This Month

Newcastle filmmaker Cameron Utiger is set to premiere his debut feature film, Cooked, a coming-of-age comedy deeply rooted in his personal experiences growing up in the city. The film will have exclusive screenings at Event Cinemas Kotara on Thursday, 27 March, and Friday, 28 March, both at 6 PM.

Cooked follows Ethan and his best mates as they celebrate their final night out together after completing their HSC exams. Set entirely in Newcastle, the film immerses viewers in the chaotic traditions of an Aussie 18th birthday party, capturing the essence of modern Australian adolescence.

Utiger, who wrote, produced, and directed the film at 21, drew inspiration from his own adolescence. He began writing down memorable experiences with his friends at 16, which later formed the basis of the film’s narrative.

The production of Cooked was a self-funded passion project, made possible through crowdfunding and personal investment. The film features cast and crew from around Newcastle, showcasing local talent both in front of and behind the camera.

The premiere screenings at Event Cinemas Kotara offer audiences a chance to experience this uniquely hilarious Aussie comedy. Tickets are available through TryBooking, with both sessions scheduled from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.

Following its cinematic release, Cooked will be available to rent or buy on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Google Play in April, allowing a broader audience to enjoy this authentic depiction of Newcastle youth.
