The Liberal Party has announced a significant commitment of $1.65 million towards the redevelopment of Max McMahon Oval in Maitland, promising to deliver much-needed facilities for the growing local sporting community.
Liberal Senator for New South Wales, Maria Kovacic, and Liberal Candidate for Paterson, Laurence Antcliff, confirmed that a Peter Dutton-led Coalition Government would provide the funding for Stage 2 of the oval’s redevelopment. The project includes the construction of a new function room to support community events and ensure the long-term viability of local sporting clubs.
Max McMahon Oval serves as the home ground for the Maitland Saints Australian Football Club, one of the fastest-growing junior sports organisations in the Paterson electorate. With Development Application approval already secured, the project is ready to commence once funding is delivered.
Antcliff criticised the Albanese Government for failing to honour its previous commitment of $1 million to the oval, accusing Labor of neglecting the needs of Paterson residents. “The people of Maitland have waited three years for funding that was promised but never delivered,” he said. “This new commitment will ensure the Maitland Saints have the facilities they need to continue growing and supporting young athletes in the region.”
Senator Kovacic echoed these sentiments, stating that families and residents in Paterson have been let down by the Albanese Government. “Labor’s track record is full of broken promises, whether it’s on cost-of-living relief, infrastructure, or local projects like this one,” she said.
This funding pledge adds to other commitments secured by Antcliff for the Paterson community, including the establishment of a new Urgent Care Clinic in Maitland, a $240,000 upgrade to Somerset Park in Thornton, and the cancellation of the Hunter Offshore Wind Zone.
