A fire broke out early this morning at a unit complex on Hassell Street, Hamilton South, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 6:31 am after reports of a fire on the top level of the three-storey building. Eight fire trucks and 30 firefighters arrived quickly and worked to contain the blaze.
Firefighters entered the unit but did not locate anyone inside. Authorities have confirmed that no residents were unaccounted for, and no injuries have been reported.
Crews climbed the stairwell with multiple hose lines, successfully containing the fire and preventing it from spreading into the roof void or adjacent units.
NSW Police, Ambulance NSW, and Ausgrid provided support at the scene. Firefighters remained on-site throughout the morning to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to assess any structural damage.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigators will examine the scene to establish how it started.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety in residential buildings. Authorities recommend that residents check their smoke alarms regularly, have a fire escape plan, and remain vigilant when using electrical appliances and heaters, particularly as colder weather approaches.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
