newy.com.au – The University of Newcastle is set to welcome over 10,000 new students during its 2025 Welcome Week, marking the institution’s 60th anniversary. The festivities, scheduled from 14 to 21 February 2025, will span multiple campuses: Newcastle City on 14 February, Gosford on 17 February, Ourimbah on 18 February, and Callaghan on 20 and 21 February.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Zee Upton expressed enthusiasm for the influx of students, noting that more than two-thirds hail from the Hunter, Central Coast, and Newcastle regions. She also highlighted the significant milestone of welcoming over 500 Indigenous students this year.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Mark Hoffman emphasized that Welcome Week serves as a crucial period for students to acclimate to university life. This year’s program places a heightened focus on accessibility, offering dedicated sessions for neurodivergent students, quiet hours at on-campus expos, a sensory room, and captioned presentations.

The week-long celebration will feature a variety of activities, including campus tours, information sessions, live music, free food, games, and a ‘dive-in’ cinema at the Forum pool. Students will also have the opportunity to explore and join various clubs and societies, fostering a sense of community and engagement.

As the University commemorates six decades of educational excellence, the 2025 Welcome Week promises to be a memorable start for the newest cohort of students.
