newy.com.au – A 22-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences following an alleged hit-and-run incident and drug-related discoveries in Newcastle.
Police were initially called to Violet Town Road, Tingira Heights, around 7:20 pm on Tuesday, 4 February 2025, after reports that a car had crashed into a fence. Upon arrival, officers found a Ford Ranger utility at the scene.
As an officer attempted to speak with the driver, the vehicle suddenly reversed, striking the officer with its side mirror and causing bruising. Despite being instructed to stop, the driver fled the scene, prompting an investigation by Newcastle City Highway Patrol.
Yesterday, Monday, 17 February 2025, at approximately 2:15 pm, police stopped a Volkswagen Golf in Perkins Street, Newcastle. Authorities allege that the driver was the same person involved in the earlier incident. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered a knife, a baseball bat, three resealable bags containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine, and a bag with three pills.
The man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with eight offences, including failing to stop when directed, reckless driving, possession of a prohibited drug, and carrying a knife in a public place.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Newcastle Local Court today, Tuesday, 18 February 2025.
