Elderly Man Hospitalised After Car and Bus Collision in Waratah

A collision at the intersection of Turton Road and Georgetown Road in Waratah has left an elderly man in serious condition. Just before 11:00 am today (Tuesday 18/2/2025), emergency services were alerted to the incident when a BMW hatchback was involved in a collision with a bus.

AThe crash occurred when the car, driven by an elderly man, collided with a bus carrying several passengers. Emergency responders, including NSW Ambulance and fire crews, quickly arrived on the scene. Firefighters had to remove part of the car’s side to extricate the trapped driver. The elderly man sustained chest and leg injuries and was immediately transported by road ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition. Meanwhile, three individuals who were onboard the bus were assessed by paramedics for minor injuries and subsequently declined further treatment, indicating that their injuries were not severe

The incident caused disruption to local traffic. Southbound lanes on Turton Road were closed for over an hour while emergency crews managed the scene. The temporary closure resulted in traffic congestion throughout Waratah. However, after approximately an hour, authorities were able to reopen Turton Road to southbound traffic, and conditions have since improved.

Police and emergency services continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
