Bar Beach Man Faces Court Over Alleged Elermore Vale Shooting and Firearms Seizure

newy.com.au – A 43-year-old man is set to face court today following his arrest over an alleged shooting incident in Newcastle last month.

At approximately 4.30am on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, police responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Lake Road, Elermore Vale. Upon arrival, officers from Newcastle City Police District discovered that projectiles had struck the front of a house and a vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Detectives from Newcastle City Police launched an investigation under Strike Force Balgo, leading to the arrest of the man in Newcastle around 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday, 6 February 2025). He was taken to Newcastle Police Station for questioning.

Following his arrest, police executed a search warrant at a property in Bar Beach, where they uncovered a cache of firearms, including two rifles, two pistols, and a gel blaster machine gun. Officers also seized firearm parts, ammunition, and a NSW Police-issued baseball cap. A silver Holden Commodore utility vehicle was confiscated as part of the investigation, with forensic analysis set to be conducted on the items.

The man has been charged with 15 offences, including firing a firearm at a dwelling with disregard for safety, possession of unregistered firearms, failing to store firearms safely, possessing prohibited drugs, unlawfully acquiring firearms, and impersonating a police officer by wearing a police uniform.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Friday, 7 February 2025).
