Man to Face Court Over Alleged Firearm, Drug, and Theft Offences in Hamilton

newy.com.au – A man is set to appear in court today after being charged with multiple offences, including firearm possession, drug possession, and theft, following an incident in Newcastle on Wednesday, 5 February 2025.

Around 3pm, plain-clothed officers from the Hunter DV High-Risk Offender Team were patrolling Beaumont Street, Hamilton, when they reportedly spotted a man on a bicycle stopping to search through a home’s letterbox.

When police attempted to intervene, the man allegedly rode away. Officers pursued him, and he was arrested shortly afterward on Lawson Street.

A search of his bag allegedly uncovered an imitation firearm, cannabis, and multiple bank cards believed to be stolen.

The 47-year-old was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with larceny, possessing an unauthorised pistol, possession of a prohibited drug, and having suspected stolen goods in his custody.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court today, Thursday, 6 February 2025.
