newy.com.au – A 19-year-old woman is due in Newcastle Local Court today after being charged with aggravated robbery following a dramatic late-night incident in Newcastle West.
At about 1am on Saturday, 1 February 2025, police were alerted to a robbery at a carpark on Steel Street. Eyewitnesses reported that two 21-year-old women were walking past a small group when the suspect suddenly approached. She allegedly demanded cash and threatened to stab one of the women before making off with her handbag.
Following a thorough investigation, detectives quickly gathered evidence at the scene. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Alexzandria Lola Michalopoulos-Donohue, was apprehended at Newcastle Police Station at around 1.20pm on Monday, 3 February 2025. She has been charged with aggravated robbery and was refused bail, with her matter adjourned until next month.
Police have urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward, emphasising that every detail is vital as the investigation continues. In the wake of the robbery, local residents have expressed heightened concerns about safety on Newcastle streets during the early hours, calling for increased vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspicious activity.
