A devastating fire has destroyed a two-storey home in Bonnells Bay overnight (Thursday 30/01/2025), firefighters battling for hours to contain the blaze.
Acting Superintendent Matt Sigman from Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed that multiple crews were called to Wood Street after a fire broke out in a caravan adjacent to the house. The flames quickly spread, engulfing both the caravan and the residence before emergency services arrived.
Early reports suggested that a person may have been trapped inside, prompting firefighters to enter the burning home in an attempt to conduct a search and rescue. However, due to the intensity of the fire, crews were forced to withdraw and shift to defensive firefighting operations. It was later confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated.
More than 30 firefighters were deployed including crews from the RFS as the property’s high fuel load made containing the blaze challenging. The second level of the home partially collapsed, complicating efforts to bring the fire under control. An aerial appliance was used to attack the flames from above, while the Rural Fire Service provided additional support to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.
Authorities have confirmed that no injuries have been reported. However, emergency services remain on site, and firefighting operations are expected to continue into the morning.
Residents have taken to social media to express their shock and offer support to those affected. Posts on the Morisset & Surrounds Community Notice Board Facebook group detailed the significant emergency response, with locals reporting multiple fire trucks rushing to the scene.
“Massive response, saw at least five fire trucks on the way there. Praying for the family,” one commenter wrote.
Others expressed relief that no one was injured but lamented the loss of the home, with many calling for donations to help those affected.
“The fire spread so fast! Thank you to all the firefighters working to contain this,” another resident posted.
Authorities are urging residents to stay updated through official channels and to extend support to those impacted by the blaze. Further details are expected as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
Several community members have suggested donating essentials through Priceline Pharmacy Morisset, which has reportedly set up a collection point to assist those affected by the fire.
