HAPPENING NOW: Tyrrell St Wallsend Remains Closed following an incident at the Lemon Grove Hotel in Wallsend hotel in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A man has been hospitalised.
UPDATE: Police re-opened the road at 9:30am
Emergency services were called to Nelson Street around 2.30am after reports of a break-in. Police arriving at the scene discovered a man, believed to be in his 20s, with a head injury.
The man sustained a laceration and was treated on-site by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to John Hunter Hospital. Authorities reported he was in a stable condition.
Newcastle City police have commenced an investigation into the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Several unofficial sources have told newy.com.au the injured party was a patron defending the business, we are awaiting offical confirmation of this information.
