Emergency services, including the Cessnock District Rescue Squad (VRA Rescue NSW), were called to George Booth Drive at Stockrington around 7pm on Wednesday after reports a car had collided with a tree.

Initial police inquiries suggest the 18-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and crashed into a tree. Hydraulic rescue tools were deployed to free a passenger from the wreckage, and both occupants received treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.

According to VRA volunteers, the passenger was then taken to hospital for further assessment, while the driver was transported to John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries. Crews stayed on site for several hours to provide lighting, enabling police to begin their investigation. They were eventually stood down just after midnight.

Officers from Hunter Valley Police District are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or possesses dashcam footage to come forward. Further information will be released as inquiries continue.
