Fullerton Cove is set to welcome a new mixed-use shopping centre following the approval of a development application by the Hunter & Central Coast Regional Planning Panel. The project, located at 42 Fullerton Cove Road, will include a supermarket, liquor store, commercial tenancies, medical centre, and extensive car parking facilities.
Mayor Leah Anderson has praised the development, emphasising its alignment with Council priorities and the long-term vision outlined in the 20-year Fern Bay and North Stockton Strategy plan. “This development will provide essential services to our rapidly growing community and enhance the overall quality of life for residents,” Mayor Anderson said.
Councillor Giacomo Arnott, who has been advocating for local retail options in the area since 2017, expressed his excitement at the decision. “This approval is a milestone for Fern Bay and Fullerton Cove. It addresses a long-standing need for local amenities while creating jobs and fostering economic growth,” Cr Arnott said. He also highlighted the importance of planning for well-serviced neighbourhoods to avoid repeating past oversights.
A local resident who owns a property on the same street said she had mixed feelings about the new development and was and was concerned about the loss of more trees in the area.
The site was rezoned in 2022 to accommodate a shopping centre as part of the Fern Bay and North Stockton Strategy, which aims to guide sustainable growth in the region. The Regional Planning Panel deemed the project to be in the public interest, considering its social and economic benefits.
Construction of the new shopping centre is expected to bring significant opportunities for the community, with easy access to groceries, retail, and medical services. For further details, visit pscouncil.info/fern-bay-stockton-strategy.
